What devices are supported?
Nokē is compatible with iOS devices that have Bluetooth 4.0 LE hardware and running iOS 7.0 or later (including iPhone 4s or newer, iPod Touch 5G or newer, iPad 3G or newer, iPad minis).
Nokē is also compatible with Android devices that have Bluetooth 4.0 LE hardware and running the Jelly Bean (4.3) or Kit Kat (4.4) versions of the Android operating system (including Samsung Galaxy S4 or newer, HTC One or newer, and several more).
Unsupported devices are:
- Huawei p10 lite
- Huawei p20 lite
- Samsung J3 (2018)
Q: What type of battery does the Nokē Padlock use?
A: The Nokē padlock uses a CR2032 standard watch battery, the same as the Nokē Key Fob
Q: What type of battery does the Nokē U-Lock use?
A: The Nokē U-Lock uses a specially formulated AA battery, designed to withstand extreme temperatures.
Q: What type of battery does the Nokē Key Fob use?
A: The Nokē Key Fob uses a CR2032 standard watch battery, the same as the Nokē Padlock.
Q: What happens if the battery dies while Nokē is locked?
A: The Nokē mobile app will show you the battery level each time you use it, so you’ll know when it is time to replace the battery. However, if the battery dies while Nokē is in the locked position, you can “jump-start” your Nokē with an external battery while your authorized device is within range. This will allow you to unlock Noke and replace the dead battery. You can find instructions to that here
Q: Is there a way to unlock Nokē manually?
A: Yes, if a system admin allows it. Users can be assigned a one-time code consisting of a randomly generated series of short and long presses on the shackle. This code will allow the user to unlock Nokē manually.
Q: How secure is Bluetooth?
A: Nokē uses Bluetooth 4.0 LE which contains the highest level of security. Bluetooth 4.0 LE uses a 128-bit AES CCM encryption algorithm to ensure transmissions are encrypted and secure. This is significantly stronger than older Bluetooth devices.

We have also put Nokē locks through rigorous testing for both water-resistance and strength. We have used boron hardened steel and have incorporated anti-shim technology in the locking mechanism.
Q: Does Nokē add any encryption to standard Bluetooth encryption?
A: Yes, in addition to standard Bluetooth encryption, Nokē employs the latest in PKI technology and uses cryptographic key exchange protocol to keep your communications with Nokē secure.
Q: Is Nokē waterproof?
A: Nokē locks were designed and built to withstand tough environments and weather conditions. They are water-resistant, but not waterproof. Meaning, our locks will withstand rain and snow but not submersion in water.
Q: What is “1-Step Unlock”?
A: 1-Step Unlock is a term we use for proximity unlocking when the authorized Bluetooth device is within range. It requires that you only press the shackle of the lock before it will automatically unlock. This is slightly less secure than 2-Step Unlock, which requires you to open your lock by pressing the shackle AND confirming the unlock in the Nokē app.
Q: What is “2-Step Unlock”?
A: 2-Step Unlock requires that you first, press the shackle of the lock and second, confirm the unlock within the app on an authorized phone for Nokē to unlock. This is more secure than 1-Step Unlock, which only requires that you press down on the shackle of the lock while your authorized device is within range.
Q: What is “Touch Unlock”?
A: Touch unlock allows a user to open Nokē using the fingerprint reader on his or her smartphone after pressing down on the shackle and confirming the unlock within the app.
Q: Can a Fob be the primary method used to unlock Nokē?
A: Yes, a user can unlock Nokē using the Nokē Key Fob instead of a phone. To do this, he/she would turn off the Bluetooth on his/her phone and/or shut down the Nokē Pro mobile app. The activity of a fob will be recorded the same as a user’s phone.
Can I use Nokē while using another Bluetooth device like headphones?
Yes, Bluetooth 4.0 LE allows multitasking without any problems.
Does the Nokē Pro App need to be running to open Nokē?
The Nokē app needs to be running or in the background for Nokē to open. Your phone can be sleeping in your pocket or purse if you have 1-Step Unlock enabled. If you restart your device or if the OS puts the app to sleep, you may need to re-launch the Nokē app.
What do the different colored lights mean?
Nokē has a light on the front to indicate various activities. In bright sunlight, you may need to cup your hand over the light to create shade, making the light appear brighter. The light indicates as follows:
- Off = Sleeping
- Blue = Normal Shackle Press
- Blue > White = Long Shackle Press
- Green flash = Unlock
- Multi-color flash = Updating lock with new settings or firmware
- Red flash = Lock
- Red fade to off = Entering sleep mode
What does it mean if no light appears when I press on the shackle?
Your lock's battery is dead and needs to be replaced. You can find instructions to battery replacement here
